What you select out of your closet every day determines how people perceive you. You make lots of first impressions, whether you know it or not. Every person you pass on the street, in a store, at work, in a restaurant, at a coffee shop – they are all noticing what you are wearing and based on this, make an impression of you. How you are perceived in that first impression is up to you. Are your clothes stained? Torn? Outdated? Ill-fitting? Sleeves too long? Are you swimming in that shirt because you have broad shoulders? Are you wearing the correct undergarments? Are your clothes properly tailored? Shoes polished and worn heels repaired/replaced?
We see lots of people every day and whether we realize it or not, we have an opinion about that person, even if we never utter a word! How do you want to be perceived? What do your clothes say about you? How you dress has a definite effect on how people perceive you and how you feel about yourself. If you are dressed for the day and know that you look good, you exude confidence, which shows in your demeanor, posture and attitude.
It’s Fall, so it’s time to go through your closet and sort it out in 4 piles: Keep, Consign, Donate & Throw Away. People only wear about 20% of the clothes in their closet, so why keep it? Get rid of clothes that do not fit you NOW! Dress for today, not for the weight you are going to gain or lose in the next year! You need to feel confident about yourself, no matter your size or shape and the way to do that is to dress your shape NOW.
Most clothes off the rack do not fit women properly. We are all different shapes and sizes so to find the proper fit when buying clothes, fit the largest part of the body you are shopping for (i.e. broad shoulders), but you have a small waist and chest so a size Large fits your shoulders, but it is huge everywhere else – FIND A TAILOR!!! Almost every dry cleaners has a tailor so find one and get those clothes tailored to your body! Whether it is getting waistlines taken in, sleeves shortened, skirts and pants hemmed, waistbands taken in, etc. Proper fit makes the difference of looking pulled together and someone thinking you are wearing your Mom’s or Aunt’s hand me downs!
