Go Boot or Go Home!

Boots are BIG this season and a must have for every woman’s wardrobe.  You can go thigh high or get ankle deep with all of the choices available to you. Be sure that you make an investment in the style that fits your look and your life.   Before we begin exploring the many options available to you, it all begins with the tights.  My favorite pick this season is the BOOTIGHT! It gives you the look of a tight and the warmth of a sock!  Hello, GENIUS! Why can’t I come up with this type of  fashion invention?  (A question, my husband asks weekly) You can find the bootight on http://www.bareneccessites.com.

The choices this season are as follows:

Sexy = THIGH HIGH!

This is actually a Rachel Zoe pick (surprise, surprise) and a FAV of mine too. It is sexy and appropriate. Michael Kors, Adena Slouch, found on Piperlime.com.  Thigh high boots look best with your favorite leggings or skinny jeans.  Keep the top flowy with your fitted bottom look.

Day to Evening  = Ankle Boots

Love these ankle boots that I found on a fun and inexpensive website called http://www.lightinthebox.com.  These boots look great with dresses, skirts and back with long sweaters and skinny jeans.  When wearing your long sweater, these boots offset the length of your sweater. This style is currently 50% off and under $30.00.  Show off that BOW detail,  it adds a soft and feminine accent to the boot.

Daytime or Weekend Casual = The Riding Boot

A great riding boot is ALWAYS in style. I love them with dresses as well as I love them with jeans. Shop Zappos.com for a nice selection of riding boots. Try a pair in cognac, it is a color that works well with jeans, black leggings and dresses. This pair is by Madden Girl and under $80.00.

Houndstooth, it’s classic, it’s regal and you will find it on everything from frocks to footwear this season.   Patterns add an instant POP to your outfit and this one communicates class and sophistication.  My favorite spot to find great houndstooth for this season is Nordstrom.  I absolutely love these houndstooth pumps, they are on my must have list.   Wear them with a purple shift dress to add interest.  This black and white classic goes with more than just a black pencil skirt, have FUN with some skinny black jeans and a red, one shoulder top.  These shoes should be worn out by the end of this season with their endless possibilities.

Try on a houndstooth topper for this season, it will enhance your dark jeans as easily as it moves into your office.

Other fabulous finds – love these houndstooth tights !!!!

Bag – Anthropologie.

You can also hunt for vintage houndstooth pieces at consignment or thrift stores. Look for great jackets and blouses.  A tailor is your best friend in reinventing items and making what was once old, new again.  It is a great way to find some new favorite pieces that are unique from anyone else.

Love this classic found on Etsy, $30.00, perfect with a pencil skirt or a pair of high waisted black pants.

Be sure you get CHECKED out this season, I hope Ive inspired you to begin your hunt for the hound.

Debbie

I always tell my clients that infusing color into your wardrobe can instantly update your look and enhance your wardrobe.  When shopping this Fall, purchase some purple and wear it proudly. Wearing this color during the month of October not only creates a look but makes a statement, raising awareness about Domestic Violence. I recently learning that over 50,000 people annually are affected by a form of domestic violence in the State of Connecticut, according to Karen Jarmoc, the Interim Executive Director.  The number is staggering and even more shocking is that of the 50,000 a very small percentage actually contact the state for help. The awareness campaign is needed to help the people in Connecticut and hopefully in many other areas to reach out for help. The programs available will and can save lives, offer support and help the victims of this horrible crime

COLOR YOUR COMPANY PURPLE during OCTOBER, ask for $1 donation per employee  and wear the color purple on a specific day during the month.  Show that you are a company in the community that supports The Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence and their campaign to stimulate awareness. Domestic violence can cross all levels of income and might currently be effecting someones  life  right in your own office.   Send pictures of your employees wearing purple and lets proudly show our support across the state.

This may prompt you to shop for some new purple items this Fall, here are some of my suggestions from http://www. shop. nordstrom.com.

Thank you for being supportive and STYLISH this FALL!

I hope this week’s Cup of Fashion finds you all safe and doing well after Hurricane Irene.  Time to look ahead at a great week to come, with sunshine and support for those neighbors who may need our help.   For many of us,  the kids return to school and the feeling of a starting fresh, fills us all. I don’t think we ever quite lose that feeling that we had as children heading back to school in the Fall, it is a magical time of year.  You may be wondering what these fall fashion tips have to do with home decor, well, the two topics are interrelated on so many levels. To start, when our homes are clean, organized and look presentable, we feel happier, our mood is improved  and we feel in control! The same emotions are felt when our wardrobes are organized, updated and we have a style for the season that flatters us and makes us feel confident.  All is good in our world if the two are connected and in sync.

I have had the distinct pleasure of meeting and knowing an INCREDIBLE woman, whose gift in decorating and pulling looks together for your home is special.  She creates stories with home decor pieces that reflect the feeling in your home and your family. The positive energy that is created with her touch, makes you smile and instantly feel good.  Her name is Laura Smigel, Owner of The Bleu Willow. You can hire Laura to come into your home for a few fall fashion updates like decorating your mantle, tabletop, entryway etc, to give your home a fall look that feels and looks great. It is what I call, an affordable luxury.

Laura and I have a few tips for you to infuse some fall fashion updates into your home and your closet.

1) INFUSE THE OLD WITH THE NEW.

Find new  items or colors that complement your home and your closet.  By adding a few signature things that YOU LOVE , you will be able to re-invent a look for your room or several looks for your wardrobe. Mix n Match instead of overspending. Shopping for vintage pieces will  add personality and uniqueness to your home and wardrobe. Infuse the unexpected into both areas of you life.

2) KEEP IT SIMPLE.

Love this one. Find looks that you like in magazines and duplicate them. If you find a look you love, use it as a roadmap to create  the same look for you. Be sure that when admiring movie star fashions that you focus on a person of similar age and body type.  Look at home decor magazine and pictures that speak to you and would fit into your home.

3) LOVE IT OR LOSE IT.

Stop wasting time and money. Only purchase pieces you LOVE.  If you pause before you purchase, and ask yourself:  DO I LOVE IT? WHERE WILL I PUT IT?  HOW WILL I WEAR IT?  If  the answers are perfectly clear, than move forward.  ( I may actually save you some money with this one, I HOPE I DO.)

4) REFER TO YOUR RESOURCES. It does take a village and with today’s social tools and access,  we can reach experts in all areas.  Email us and we can help you with our affordable services to get the looks you LOVE!

Here are a few recent photo’s of clients I took shopping and we found some great vintage finds to add into their wardrobe, cost under $20.00! STOP IT. Fashion is FUN AND EXCITING!

Take a Look at some of Laura’s treasures – make sure to call if you are interested in any items you see.Find her on Facebook or on http://www.thebleuwillow.com, or 860.264.1556
